Eastgate
Towers'
Ocean Court
, Bondi Junction, site of a gas explosion last week, will be closed for six months, Wally Patterson, Managing Director of Dynamic Property Services, announced late this afternoon.
"The Owners' Corporation's insurers have instructed us that the building is unsafe and therefore will be closed to all residents for about six months," Mr Patterson said.
"The building is unsafe and will require substantial work to return it to a habitable state.
"It is simply too dangerous to allow residents to continue accessing the building, even to remove personal items.
"The focus now will be on returning the building to a liveable state."
Mr Patterson said an information night for all residents will be held next Thursday (April 16th) at a time and venue to be confirmed.
He rejected suggestions that the building's tenants had been forgotten.
He said Dynamic Property Services had adopted a range of measures to assist residents, owners and tenants and keep them informed of developments.
Mr Patterson said Dynamic's website (
www.dynamicproperty.com.au
) provides residents, owners and tenants with regular updates plus information on where they can seek alternative accommodation on a link entitled Eastgate Update.
"Some tenants appear to have been provided with misleading information that they can access compensation through the building's insurance policy. Unfortunately, this has never been the case," Mr Patterson said.
He said liaison continued with Waverley Council and with relevant government agencies and departments, and the media.
"We appreciate this is an extremely difficult time for residents and owners. Tenants should be able to cease paying rent and should contact their letting agent about this," Mr Patterson said.
All residents can email Lisa Branson at Dynamic Property Services at
eastgate@dps.net.au
or call on 9263 9912 between 8am and 5pm weekdays for more information and assistance.
"If residents have not done so already, they should advise Lisa of their best point of contact, so we can provide updates." Mr Patterson said.
"I would like to thank all residents for their patience and understanding during this difficult time.
"We appreciate any assistance provided by the media in disseminating information to residents."
