Benjamin Haslem

Ben came to Jackson Wells Morris with an acute understanding of the mainstream press having spent the best part of a decade working for The Australian newspaper in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.

He has managed and worked on complex projects for a number of JWM's major clients including World Audio Limited, Acer Computer Australia, Dell, FreightLink, Auspine, Leighton, the Australian Retailers Association, the Australian Newsagents Federation, James Hardie, Boral Limited, Clubs NSW and the Constitution Education Fund.

Immediately before joining JWM Ben was The Australian's High Court correspondent and regularly acted as Chief-of-Staff at the Sydney Bureau. From 1999-2002, he was based in the Parliamentary press gallery in Canberra where he covered welfare reform, the job network, the Attorney-General and education.

Between 1996-1999 he worked as a general reporter, state rounds reporter and court reporter for The Australian in Melbourne. He also reported on the Citylink tollway project, AFL matches, the 1999 state election and arts and entertainment.

Ben's first assignment at the newspaper was in Sydney as reporter on the commercial property section, covering rural property and Sydney Olympics rounds. During his cadetship at News Limited, Ben also worked on the Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph.

Before newspapers, Ben was often heard on community radio programs for Radio Skid Row and the educational broadcaster, 2SER-FM, founded in 1979 by JWM chairman Keith Jackson.

Ben has a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in politics and psychology from the University of Sydney, where he was editor of the student newspaper, Honi Soit. Ben also holds a Graduate Diploma in Communication from the University of Technology, Sydney.
